New salt compounds challenge the foundation of chemistry

How is this possible? We all know the table salt NaCl, pretty straightforward, pretty common. Ionic bonds between Na and Cl. But NaCl3, Na3Cl, and all in pressures above 25 GPa? I need to understand this. This is weird, and cool.
